The Cabinet has approved a proposal to declare an extra holiday on April 9th, when a royal cremation is scheduled for Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana, the only daughter of King Rama VI and first cousin of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
PM’s Office Permanent Secretary Thongthong Chandrangsu said on Tuesday that the Cabinet has considered a proposal from the Prime Minister’s Office to make April 9th, 2012 an official holiday, to allow Thai people to go into mourning and attend the royal funeral ceremony for HRH Princess Bejaratana.
In addition, the Cabinet will ask all establishments, state and state enterprise offices as well as all educational institutions to fly the flag at half mast from April 8th until 10th.
During this period, all entertainment venues will be requested to play down their activities while radio and TV stations will be notified to avoid entertainment programs.
