Siam Philharmonic’s Mahler series continues with No. 4 featuring Nancy Yuen … plus Somchai plays the fiendish Strauss Oboe Concerto … and Nancy Yuen sings Puccini heroines from her upcoming CD with maestro Somtow….
The fourth in the acclaimed Mahler series which has had the support of the Austrian Embassy as well as representatives of the International Mahler Society, this concert was to have featured Barbara Bonney, who unfortunately has now canceled her entire tour of the region. Nancy Yuen, who sang the solo in Somtow’s performance of Mahler 4 six years ago (the first performance of this symphony in Thailand by a professional orchestra) who will be in Thailand recording a CD of Puccini arias with Somtow, has generously stepped in.
Somchai Thongbook is one of Thailand’s most accomplished young musicians and he will be making his concerto debut with the Strauss oboe concerto.
As an extra treat we will hear some previews from Nancy Yuen and Somtow’s forthcoming CD including the beautiful “Doretta’s Dream” from “La Rondine.”
